Here is our Check-List for the Sheldon Magazine Project. This list is a tool to keep everyone up-to-date on our progress, and what has been completed. Anything with a strickthrough has been completed.
A link to Page 1 of the original magazine is HERE. You can scroll down for additional pages.
What we have to do for each individual in each family group:
- Add name and year of birth if noted.
- Add year of birth: If year of birth is listed, add as listed. If no birth is listed, add an estimated year based on any clues you might have. Format: “Abt. 1790”. To help with adding estimated years of birth, I use the following process. It’s incredible how often this system is found to be close to accurate when later compared with other documentation.
- Keep the children in the order as listed in the magazine unless other documentation confirms otherwise. The Rev. did try to list in chronological order when it was known, but did sometimes guess.
- If there is a known marriage date, the first child is estimated for the next year.
- If no marriage, but there is a year of birth for the mother – add 18 years for the first child.
- If no marriage or mother’s birth, but you have the fathers – add 21 years for the first child. If we are following this consistantly there should always at least be an estimated year for the father. If not, go to the paternal grandparents and follow the same process to find his estimated year of birth.
- All additional children alternate 1 and 2 additional years between children for the first decade, and then two years between children after that. Example: if parents are married in 1790.
- Child 1, born Abt. 1791 (one year after the marriage)
- Child 2, born Abt. 1792 (one year after the last child)
- Child 3, born Abt. 1794 (two years after the last child)
- Child 4, born Abt. 1795 (one year after the last child)
- Child 5, born Abt. 1797 (two years after the last child)
- Child 6, born Abt. 1798 (one year after the last child)
- Child 7, born Abt. 1800 (two years after the last child, end of the first decade)
- Child 8, born Abt. 1802 (two years after the last child)
- Child 9, born Abt. 1804 (two years after the last child)
- Child 10, born Abt. 1806 (two years after the last child)
