- Funeral services were held Saturday in Boise for Allyn O. Sheldon, former Pocatello resident who died Wednesday at his home there. Dr. Mack McCray officiated at the service.
Mr. Sheldon was born March 1, 1890, at Burlington, Wis. He moved with his parents to Osage, Iowa, in 1897, where he finished public school and a year in junior college. He spent a year on a surveying crew in Montana before entering the retail lumber business in Washington in 1908. He moved to Twin Falls in 1909. After three years he was transferred to American Fall and then Pocatello. He married Ruth Sallee July 1, 1914 in Pocatello. He transferred in 1921 to Salt Lake City, and in 1926 became treasurer, office manager and purchasing agent of the Gem State Lumber Co. at Pocatello. He returned to Salt Lake as executive vice president in 1932 after a merge3r. In 1954 he transferred to Boise as vice president of the Western Lumber Men Association. In 1957 he retired and was appointed to the Public Utilities Commission where he served as president until 1961. He retired from PUC in 1967.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Boise, Masonic lodges, the El Kalah Shrine of Salt Lake City, the Boise Elks Lodge, Boise YMCA, Alta Club of Salt Lake City, Argenta Lodge of Salt Lake City, and was active in civic affairs, including the United Fund.
He is survived by his wife of Boise; a son, Calvert E. Sheldon of Olympia, Wash.; five grandchild and a great-grandchild.
Summer Funeral Home was in charge of services.
