SHELDON – At Montclair, N.J., January 2d, 1895, Cevedra Blake Sheldon, of 416 7th st., South Brooklyn.  Funeral services on Saturday, January 5th, 1895, at 3 pm, at the residence of his son-in-law, L. W. Case, M. D., 41 Park street.

AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT

Montclair and Verona Parties Injured Last Saturday.

Sheldon Case, son of Dr. Levi W. Case, of 41 Park street, was testing the hill-climbing qualities of a new automobile shortly before 10 o’clock Saturday night.  It was an entirely new type of vehicle which might properly be termed a horseless carriage, as with its high running gear, black leather dashboard, and buggy top to match, it closely resembles the regulation “doctor’s gig”. Nothing like it had been seen in Montclair before.

Young Case was ascending Hillside avenue, near St. Luke’s place, where the grade is unusually steep.  When he overtook a carriage occupied by James W. Orr and his wife and daughter, Case signalled to Orr to drive to the side of the road, but in the darkness the latter mistook the outlines of the auto for those of a buggy and miscalculated its speed, for the vehicles collided with great force and overturned, throwing their occupants out upon the roadway.

Mrs. Orr sustained severe injuries to her left arm and shoulder, while Mr. Orr received an ugly gash in the head.  Their daughter escaped injury, but suffered from the result of shock.  Case was bruised about the body, but fortunately escaped serious injury.

Sheldon Case announces the sale of three Holman automobiles this week, one of them, a surrey model, to Jerome Sigler of this place.  Mr. Case started for Chicago last night to represent New Jersey in the Holman exhibit in the Chicago Automobile Show.

Sheldon W. Case in Charge

Sheldon W. Case, of Park street, will have charge of the New Jersey State end of the Holsman Automobile Company’s exhibit booth at the automobile show in the Grand Central Palace, on Lexington avenue, corner of 43rd Street, New York.  Mr. Case would be glad to see all parties interested in Holsman automobiles during the show week, October 24-31.

Mr. Case has sold about forty machines the past year and is to be congratulated upon the performance of his cars.

The body of Sheldon W. Case, son of Dr. Levi W. Case, 26 years old, who was drowned in the Hudson River on January 28, and which was recovered this week, will be interred in Mt. Hebron cemetery to-morrow.
