Drowned in Lake Pontchartrain. (By Associated Press) – NEW ORLEANS, March 9. – Lucius Sheldon, a telegraph operator, while suffering from mental aberrations, to-day, was accidentally drowned in Lake Pontchartrain. He leaves a wife.

A Celebrated Case (By Associated Press) – DANVILLE, VA., June 21 – The trial of the celebrated case of the Reynolds brothers, negroes, which was removed from Patrick county to the Circuit Court of Danville, commenced here to-day. Burwell Reynolds was arraigned for the murder of Aaron Sheldon, a white man. A mixed jury of eight whites and four negroes was obtained from a special venire. The trial is proceeding and may continue several days. At its conclusion Lee Reynolds will be put on trial.

Louisa Sheldon, aged 19, of Compton’s Mills, N.J., whose family is well off, hung herself to a rafter in a barn. She was beautiful, usually light-hearted, and a favorite. She had formed an attachment for a young man whom she met at a summer resort, but her parents stopping their correspondence, she committed suicide.

Obituary Notes – Mark W. Sheldon
Mark W. Sheldon, 86-year-old veteran of the Civil War, died last night at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Frank B. Staats, 3013 Washington street, following an illness from complications induced by old age. The deceased is survived in addition to Mrs. Staats, by one other daughter, Mrs. Anna F. Donoho, of Lincoln City, Del., and two sons, Pemberton B. Sheldon, of Indianapolis, Ind., and Edgar V. Sheldon, of Stroudsburg Pa., 19 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mr. Sheldon who was a retired farmer, was born in Haddonfield, N.J. but moved when still a young man to this State, where he had since resided. During the Civil War he was stationed at Fort Delaware as a private in the First Delaware Regiment. Services will be conducted at 3 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Staats, with the Rev. E. W. McDowell, pastor of Eastlake M. E. Church, officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery.
